About LAOH
The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians was organized in Omaha in 1894, and this division was recently named the Mother Catherine McAuley Division, in honor of the woman from Ireland who founded the Sisters of Mercy. The purpose of the organization is to promote Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity among its members. The primary purpose was to protect young immigrant Irish girls coming to the United States to assist them in securing employment, to give them opportunities to meet other Irish residents and keep them from becoming homesick and discouraged. Their work today includes Mission work and Catholic Action.
