Fáilte! Welcome to IrishOmaha.com

This site is a result of our ethnic pride and desire to have a central location where all can access information on a variety of Irish happenings.

We encourage all Irish organizations to contact us so we may share calendar and fundraising activities with the public. In addition to these groups we invite all local Irish artists to notify us of events that would be of interest to our local Irish population. Our Irish Sister City: Naas, County Kildare, Ireland

Omaha's St. Patrick's Day Celebration took on a special meaning in 2002 with the addition of a fourth sister city for Omaha -- Naas (rhymes with "face"), Ireland. Supported by the Omaha Sister Cities Association, AOH & LAOH, Omaha welcomed a delegation of 39 individuals from Naas, Kildare, Ireland. They visited Omaha March 14-20, 2002.

IrishOmaha.com Looking for Sponsors in 2008

While this site MIGHT be able to run on its good looks ;-), the real world requires money from us to make IrishOmaha.com happen each month! Monthly sponsorship goes toward web hosting and is priced according to the number of hits we receive each month. An Irish-related organization, Irish-related business or Irish family could sponsor a month, in return for VERY cheap exposure! If two groups want to split a month, that's ok too! Please contact Kerry regarding monthly prices. Remember, this helps sustain IrishOmaha.com and is greatly appreciated.

We want YOU!

If you have a local event, organization or business that supports the continuation of Irish heritage in the Omaha area, we want to hear from you. Feel free to email us at IrishOmaha@cox.net.

Genealogy Class at Metro CC

CLIMBING YOUR IRISH FAMILY TREE (HIST_305N) with KEVIN CASSIDY
Saturdays, March 8-29
9:00AM-12:00PM
Cost: $51.00
Westside Community Conf Ctr, 3534 S 108th St
(MEETS FOR 2 THREE HOUR SESSIONS-MARCH 8 AND 29)

Are you descended from an Irish immigrant but don't know where in Ireland he was born? Have you done some work on the family tree but all you know is born Ireland or born County Cork? This class is for you! This class will help any researcher to learn how to find his family in the United States Census, city directories, vital records, military files and more. The key to searching our Irish ancestors is to search each and every American record before trying to search in the Irish records. Irish records are scarce in comparison to other European countries. Therefore, much of the class will cover how to search the entire immigrant family to determine their Irish place of origin. Each family tree is unique so we can't promise success but we will highlight the strategies with the best chance for success. This class is intended for the beginning or intermediate researcher. The class will concentrate on the 1850-1930 US Censuses and other records created after 1840. This class is not able to cover the earlier Scots Irish or colonial era families.

This class is offered through Metro Community College.
